About the Client

Retail Experience Design provide interior design services to commercial clients. But they don’t just make spaces look prettier - they identify how their clients can use their space better, to improve collaboration, sell more or higher value products, or create dedicated areas for different uses. While their design is exceptional, their website wasn’t living up to it, and they needed a new look that really reflected their creativity and style.

  • Modern,impactful design

  • Improved SEO and ranking

  • Flexible editing and scalability

  • Fast loading with great UX

The Challenge

The visual impact was, naturally, a huge part of this project. But it was essential that performance wasn’t sacrificed along the way.

Balancing the artistic and the functional was one of the most significant challenges of this project, ensuring that the website performed beautifully, with clear user pathways and fast loading pages.

Another consideration in the combination of form and function, was RED’s ability to update the website, and add new pages and sections that kept to the consistency of the design, without looking templated, or requiring coding skills to create.

Modular design

To provide the flexibility we wanted to create a stunning design, but still provide RED with the tools they needed to create new content, we decided on a modular design framework using Gutenberg.

The Gutenberg platform allowed us to design sections and elements that could then be used and customised to build new content areas and pages.

This provides a platform that enables RED to easily expand their website, whilst still delivering that high level of individuality and design that they’re known for.

SEO

As well as improving the look and performance of their website, RED were also keen to improve its visibility, and make the website more of a touchpoint for potential clients.

RED wanted to show the breadth of their experience, which tied in nicely with our keyword research, and led us towards a website structure that focused around the different sectors and types of project they work on.

Static site generation

Because Gutenberg is a WordPress system, it was essential that we implemented static site generation to keep the website loading quickly.

This means that we decouple the WordPress CMS from the front end. So a user on the website is only loading the front end code, while the CMS sits on separate hosting. This means you’re not having to load all of WordPress every time you visit the website, keeping it super fast.

The Outcomes

Looking at the quarter just after website launch with the same quarter the next year, RED saw incredible increases in both search visibility and user numbers.

Not only does the new website now accurately reflect the incredible quality of RED’s own design work, it’s also a much more valuable tool in finding and converting new customers.
