Jon Bevan
Web Developer
What I do well
I get computers. Which is quite useful as a developer, but does mean that I can find myself roped into "IT support". My core languages are pretty web centric, but I can turn my programming hand to pretty much anything when required, and I relish the challenge!
I love solving problems and constantly look for ways to simplify, optimise and improve whatever I'm working on. It's incredibly important to spend time with pen and paper thinking through a problem thoroughly before bashing away at the keyboard!
And despite being a bit of a geek I can actually hold a (relatively) normal conversation with normal people, and enjoy trying to communicate techy stuff in a clear way to the majority non-technical types (even if they really aren't listening).
What I do badly
Like most developers who've just finished school or university I tend to underestimate how long things will take to complete, and as a bit of a perfectionist I usually end up doing more work than necessary on top of that. I think I'm probably a bit too critical as well sometimes, rather than appreciating the work and effort that's gone into something already.
I'm also quite often more interested in whatever new technology, project or problem that I've come across rather than the task at hand!
About me
Although originally from Watford, I grew up in Papua New Guinea, so thankfully missed out on most of the 1990's pop culture. I have a very dry sense of humour, and as you would expect from a developer I like computers, technology, languages, gaming etc, but strangely really enjoying switching it all off from time-to-time.
Beyond computing, I enjoy cycling and climbing, small business, travelling, socialising and reading. My Christian faith is also a central part of my life.
