Online Marketing

What I do well

My strengths lie in online strategy and marketing. I am particularly good at understanding and interpreting an idea for a website, and spotting the strengths & weaknesses behind it.

This is a really handy skill when it comes to discussing large complex projects. We take a bit longer over the meetings and get down to a fine level of detail, so we tend to be able to quote very accurately and manage expectations better as a result.

I believe online success is usually about 3 things:

  1. Having something people want
  2. Finding the people that want it
  3. Presenting your offer correctly

I've spent around 10 years working on the second 2 points in that list (the first point is down to you!), and what it always comes down to, is knowing the right questions to ask.

I'm also dedicated to the development of the company and spend at least one evening a week with my business partner Mark working on the development of Edge of the Web (you know the old clichė... working on the business not in it). We spend this time working out how to improve our service levels, our working environment, our marketing strategies etc. It's definitely the best thing about having a business partner.

What I do badly

I am rubbish at design. I'm very good at analysing design (it's always easier to criticise) but I am totally useless at doing anything graphical myself.

I also really annoy our design and development team by working on live websites and not synching our local files.

I don't make enough tea.

About me

I like squash and golf... I realise that's the ultimate cheesy-alpha-male-hunter-yuppie combination of interests, but I can't help it... I just like them. If it helps my faltering image, I am pretty rubbish at both despite my best efforts.

On a more personal note, my wife Katie and I have been married since May 2009 (after a whirlwind 9 year romance). We have 2 children, and like every parent I think they are the most amazing things on the planet (and like every parent I am probably wrong about that!).
