Office fashion

September 23rd, 2009

The TUC has issued a warning against wearing heels in the workplace – as though women aren’t fully aware of how much pain stilettos can cause to themselves and others.

Unless there’s an outbreak of employers demanding that women wear high heels to work (unlikely – can you imagine the law suits?), it’s probably the most redundant advice they could give out.

‘WOMEN! Your feet may be hurting because you’re wearing 4-inch heels!’

‘Really?! You mean it’s not this brand of coffee causing my crippling foot pains? Well, what a revelation! I’m off to buy some flip-flops!’

Oh, and if you DO have a strict dress code that involves high heels, enforced nose piercing or a tighty-whiteys only policy, then you probably need to think about whether it’s going to have a positive impact on productivity and morale amongst your work force, or whether it’s going to inspire someone to beat you repeatedly with a shoe.
